Focused on Performance
Since its establishment as a company in 1981, Torpey has become the leading brand of hurleys used in the GAA today. Our ethos is simple – ‘use the best materials to make the best performing products’. For over 30 years hurlers who choose a Torpey have experienced the quality and assurance that they are best prepared every time they take to the field.
As a company Torpey Hurleys truly are unique in the sporting goods sector, with a historical background in the sport of hurling and in the art of hurley manufacture like few others. We have continued to adapt our hurley designs to meet the demands of the modern player.
Player performance and enhancement of the sport of hurling is at the heart of everything we do. Our designs are created to enhance skill level and promote player development at every age, from beginner to inter-county star, with many legends of the game choosing a Torpey hurley every time.
Leading this performance focused approach to Hurley manufacture is current Hurley master craftsman Seán Torpey bringing the craft into its 3rd generation. Not only has Seán a focus on the traditional aspects of Hurley manufacture but he is also acutely aware of the modern demands of players. As a qualified Sports Engineer Seán also understands the scientific principles of sports products and has an ambition to adapt hurley styles in the future to continue Torpey’s renowned heritage as the No.1 performance hurley in the sport of Hurling.
Always looking to improve our products we are continuously evaluating the hurleys we manufacture and adapt them to the change with the modern game of Hurling. At the same time, we are also trying to keep the traditional values of the hurley - Strength, Flexibility & Accuracy.
The latest innovation for us has been the creation of our new innovative Torpey Camogie range of Hurleys, tailored specifically to female players, including thin handles and a lightweight head (bás) to allow for easier playing contol for the modern camogie player. We believe these will prove as popular as our renowned Big Bás hurleys which were lauched a number of years ago and have gone on to become the Hurley of choice amongst many elites of the sport including Tony Kelly (Clare), Colin Dunford (Waterford), David McInerney (Clare), Cathal Mannion (Galway), John Conlan (Clare) and Jamie Barron (Waterford). See the table below for more details of the players who have been successful with our Hurleys during their careers.
